Connecting to USC Wireless Windows Vista

Step 1

    1. Click on the ‘Start’ button.
    2. Click ‘Connect to’.The taskbar at the bottom of the screen with the Start button circled and Connect to highlighted and circled.

Step 3

    1. Select ‘Manually connect to a wireless network’.

Step 4

    1. Enter 'USC Wireless +' as the Network Name'.
    2. Select 'WPA2-Enterprise' as the Security Type.
    3. Select 'AES' as the Encryption Type.
    4. Check 'Start this connection automatically' if you would like to automatically connect to the USC Wireless + network (This step is optional).
    5. Click 'Next' to continue.

Step 5

Step 6

    1. Click on the 'Security' tab.
    2. Ensure that the Security type selected is 'WPA2-Enterprise'.
    3. Ensure that the Encryption type is 'AES'.
    4. Click the 'Settings' button.

Step 7

    1. Un-check 'Validate server certificate' option. Make sure no certificates are selected.

Step 8

    1. Un-check 'Automatically use my Windows logon name and password'.
    2. Click 'OK'.
    3. Click 'OK' on the Protected EAP Properties window.

Step 9

    1. Click ‘OK’ to close USC Wireless + Network properties.
    2. click ‘Close’ to close the manually connect to a wireless network window.  

Step 10

    1. Check to make sure you have set up your proxy settings. Open up internet explorer and click on tools from the list select internet options.
    2. Select the ‘Connections’ tab.

Step 11

    1. Under the ‘Automatic Configuration’ heading select the check box next to ‘Automatically detect settings’.

Step 12

    1. Click on the ‘Start’ button.

Note: Make sure your wireless is turned on. Also, to complete the following steps you must be in range of the wireless network. For an up to date list of locations where the wireless is available on campus please refer to wireless on campus.  

Step 13

    1. Select the ‘USC Wireless +’ network.
    2. Click ‘Connect’.

Step 14

    1. Click ‘Enter/select additional log on information’.

Step 15

When prompted:

    1. Enter your email address.
    2. Enter your password. 
    3. Click 'OK'.

Step 16

Open your web browser to start browsing the web. Please note: when prompted for your details while visiting external website you must enter your username and password not your email address.
