Profile
Dr Faye Thompson has over 20 years experience as a midwife and educator in a variety of tertiary teaching institutions, both in Australia and overseas, and is currently an ITAS tutor with USC.
As an undergraduate in Australia she studied philosophy and the humanities (psychology and sociology). Since then her specific areas of interest have been ethics (across disciplines), workplace relationships, and globalisation as related to health care.
Dr Thompson has an established research and publication track record, and longstanding involvement in the professions, industry and community. Her doctoral research and publications are internationally recognised for identifying the ethics that are implicit in the practice of Midwifery.
In the past four years Dr Thompson has led collaborative international research into the impact on mental health nurses and midwives of reporting clinical errors (2009), was an appointed member of the Queensland Government Maternity Service Steering Committee (2006/7), and was the Lead Consultant in the Development of a national Code of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct for Midwives in Australia (2006).
