Dean's welcome
Supporting a rapidly growing area, the Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering offers almost 4000 students a large number of innovative programs across a diverse range of areas in science, health, engineering and education to meet the challenges posed by this growth.
This range enables students to develop combinations of courses that will meet their need for a comprehensive range of skills as well as an extensive knowledge base.
The Faculty's courses have always reflected employment trends towards greater career opportunities and moving away from traditional roles. Students are encouraged to major in more than one discipline, and to undertake study in other Faculties to gain cross-disciplinary skills.Due to enormous growth and development, from 2012 the Faculty has divided into a three School structure—the School of Health and Sport Sciences, and School of Science, Education Engineering and the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
All of these School programs are designed to meet both international standards of excellence and the needs of the Sunshine Coast region, drawing on the expertise of national and international experts and providing high-quality practical experience through field trips and work placements in schools, hospitals and other work places.
Research in the Faculty is focused on Sustainable Environments, especially sustainable production systems, and Healthy People. The Faculty currently houses the GeneCology Research Group and the Centre for Healthy Activities, Sport and Exercise (CHASE), an engagement centre.
Our students are provided with unprecedented access to research opportunities in state and local government facilities.
Our strategic partnerships with the community, government and private organisations create networks for collaborative research and are a direct link to future employment opportunities.
I look forward to welcoming you to the Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering.
Professor John Bartlett
