Profile

Lisa Fraser is a registered psychologist with the Psychologists Board of Queensland, and a full member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the APS College of Sport and Exercise Psychologists (CoSEP). Originally from Newcastle, Ms Fraser has completed a Masters of Sport and Exercise Psychology and is currently a Lecturer in Sport Psychology at USC.

Apart from coordinating the second-year Sport Psychology course within the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science, Lisa also teaches the psychological elements of the Nutrition and Dietetics degree, coordinating both a first year course (Introduction to Behavioural Health) and a third year course (Principles of Individual and Group Management). The first year course seeks to acquaint students who intend to pursue a career in a health-related field with an understanding of public health specifically related to risk factors associated with the prevention of disease and illness, while the third year course is designed specifically to prepare Nutrition and Dietitetics students for their first practicums experiences, developing their interviewing and counselling skills, and teaching them about health-related behaviour change, among other topics.

Ms Fraser is also a practicing psychologist who has experience providing both clinical and sport-related psychological assessment and counselling. Lisa has extensive experience in her field, having provided performance-related information and strategies to both individuals and groups of all levels for the past 10 years. She has worked with both elite and recreation level athletes and coaches from sports such as kayaking, sailing, golf, athletics, swimming, rowing, and tennis, among many others. Having played competitive basketball herself for 15 years, both in Australia and the USA, Lisa is particularly passionate about her work.
Lisa has presented her research both nationally and internationally, and has been a guest speaker at a number of community forums. She is currently completing her PhD focusing on exploring the self-identity characteristics of elite athletes and the impact of transitional events, such as retirement from sport, upon how athletes view themselves, and upon what they consider to be important in their lives.
