Part A: Preliminary
1. Purpose of policy
This Policy outlines the selection criteria and basis for the Award of a University Commendation for Academic Excellence (Postgraduate Coursework Study).
2. Application of policy
A University Commendation for Academic Excellence (Postgraduate Coursework Study) may be awarded to any graduating student in a postgraduate coursework award program.

3. Determination of award
3.1. For the purposes of the award of a University Commendation for Academic Excellence (Postgraduate Coursework Study), “academic excellence” means the achievement of a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 6.6 or better (refer to Grades and Grade Point Average (GPA) – Academic Policy).
3.2. To be eligible for consideration the student must have undertaken at least 96 units of their program of study at the University.
3.3. Students who have undertaken any cross institutional study or who have been awarded credit for previous study and who do not complete an additional 96 points of study at the University will not be considered for this award.
3.4. The award of a University Commendation for Academic Excellence (Postgraduate Coursework Study) will be determined by the Director, Student Administration in accordance with this policy and will be advised to the Deputy Vice Chancellor. Details of students to be awarded will also be forwarded to each Executive Dean.
3.5. The determination of the award will be made prior to a Graduation Ceremony and will include consideration of all students who have been graduated in a Postgraduate Coursework program since the last graduation ceremony.
3.6 A notation stating that a University Commendation for Academic Excellence (Postgraduate Coursework Study) has been awarded will be included on the recipient’s statement of academic record.
3.7. The award of a University Commendation for Academic Excellence (Postgraduate Coursework Study) will be notified to the Academic Board and will be acknowledged at a Graduation Ceremony.
