Learning and Teaching Committee

The Committee recommends to the Academic Board on learning and teaching policy and the accreditation or approval of programs and courses other than for higher degrees by research.

The Committee advises the Academic Board and Deputy Vice-Chancellor on the Learning and Teaching Plan.

Terms of reference

  1. To advise the Academic Board and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor on learning and teaching matters, including University Policy on learning and teaching;
  2. To advise the Academic Board and Deputy Vice-Chancellor on the Learning and Teaching Plan;
  3. To make recommendations to the Academic Board on proposals for the accreditation of undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs, approval of courses, substantial changes to undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs, and discontinuation of undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs and courses;
  4. To oversee the Learning and Teaching Grants scheme;
  5. To advise the Academic Board and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor on professional development in learning and teaching, e-learning, first-year experience, Work Integrated Learning and other key areas of learning and teaching; 
  6. To advise the Deputy Vice-Chancellor on the preparation of key submissions to government related to learning and teaching;
  7. To recommend to the Vice-Chancellor the annual recipient of the Vice-Chancellor’s medal for Learning and Teaching and the Vice-Chancellor’s medal for Learning and Teaching – Sessional Staff.

Tenure and frequency of meetings

  • There will be at least four meetings of the Committee each year.
  • The Deans’ nominees will serve for a period of 2 years.
  • The undergraduate students will serve for a period from 1 July of one year to 30 June of the following year with a maximum of 2 consecutive terms of office.
