University of the Sunshine Coast, Sippy Downs
The Sunshine Coast World Environment Day Festival 2010 is proudly presented by the Sunshine Coast Environment Council, SEQ Catchments, the Sunshine Coast Council and the University of the Sunshine Coast.
With more than 7000 people from the community, academia and corporate sectors expected to attend, the Sunshine Coast World Environment Day Festival is one of the region’s premier events. This year's Festival marks the 30th anniversary of the Sunshine Coast Environment Council and provides a unique opportunity to understand the local, regional and global imperatives facing us today and into the future whilst fostering environmental awareness, participation and motivation.
This diverse Festival encompasses a dynamic program to gather the broader community under an interactive ‘umbrella’ of sustainability education and action.
As part of the worldwide celebration of positive action for the environment under the UN designated theme, ‘Many species – One planet – One future’, this year’s Sunshine Coast Festival celebrates biodiversity.

All this promotes a fabulous atmosphere against the backdrop of the exceptional University of the Sunshine Coast campus with models of sustainable architecture.
March of the Animals Parade
Pied Piper, Lindsay Pollak will lead a biodiversity parade of animals and plants cleverly disguised as children (or maybe, it’s the other way around). The Parade is a must see and starts at 12noon sharp!

Biodiversity speakers
An impressive line-up of topical speakers and expert presenters will address topics related to this year’s theme of Biodiversity, such as ‘the impact of population growth on biodiversity’, and ‘biodiversity in the backyard’.

Fashion parade
Fashions made from environmentally sustainable products such as bamboo and hemp will be showcased. The fashion is provided by Bamboo Boutique.
Youth events and workshops
A comprehensive program of fun and learning activities is one of the most exciting parts of the Sunshine Coast World Environment Day Festival in 2010. This includes Geckoes Wildlife Show, the Bug Lab, kite flying and construction and much, much more.
Local craft stalls and wholesome, gourmet food and beverages
The region’s gifted craftspeople showcase products with an emphasis on local/recycled materials. Once you have worked up an appetite, follow the tantalising scents to the food and beverage hubs where top chefs, organic farmers and a delicious selection of gourmet goodies guarantee any environmentally conscious ‘gastronome’ a guilt-free day of sustenance that can continue at home.
Entertainment
Local performers and world music bands take to the stage and are on the march throughout the Festival. Enjoy the amazing atmosphere throughout the day. The combination of rhythms and sublime melodies will have you dancing or stretched out on picnic blanket to partake in music for the soul. The impressive line-up includes KKarinba, the Cyclologists, OKA and more.
Films galore!
2010 is an exciting year for film buffs who will be treated to a full program of environmental films by local film makers including entrants in the ECOflicks film competition, as well as the Treeline films.
The finalists in the ECOflicks competition will be screened again after the Interfaith Forum in Lecture Theatre 7.
Transition Town
As in years past, Transition Town will be the venue for talks and demonstrations on topics such as worm farming and composting, vegie gardening, backyard habitats and biodiversity, permaculture and solar cooker.
