The internationally acclaimed Australian String Quartet (ASQ) will perform at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) Innovation Centre on Monday May 17.

The Sunshine Coast concert is the only performance in Australia outside a capital city and the first in the ASQ national concert tour.

Proceeds from the concert will assist the University in completing the new Art Gallery being built on campus.

Funding for the Gallery is supported by the University Foundation.

Andrew Pentland, Executive Officer for the Foundation, said the concert is an example of one cultural event supporting another.

"Monies raised from the concert will go toward completing the Art Gallery, which will feature visiting exhibitions and will be open to the public with free entry six days a week," Mr Pentland said.

"The Sunshine Coast community has the opportunity to experience the Australian String Quartet, a world-class cultural event, right here on our doorstep," he said.

There has been an amendment to the advertised program, with guest oboist Anthony Camden withdrawing from the tour due to injury.

The revised program is;
Hugo Wolf Italian Serenade (1887), Toru Takemitsu A Way a Lone (replacing Entre-Temps), Shostakovich String Quartet No 7 in F Sharp Major (replacing Crusell's Divertimento in C Major) and Antonin Dvorak String Quartet No 12 in F, Opus 96 (The American) (1893).

The Australian String Quartet second season concert promises an engaging, eclectic performance, taking concertgoers on an intimate, lyrical journey from 19th Century Italy to New York, via Russia and contemporary Japan.
