Support for the Arts on the Sunshine Coast has been given a major boost with Coastline BMW agreeing to become major sponsor of the 2004 art exhibition program at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

The agreement between the Caloundra-based BMW dealership and the University will benefit the entire community as all of the exhibitions, including those in a new Gallery currently under construction, will be open to the public.

The University presents eight art exhibitions each year, including the popular Minister's Awards for Art Excellence which highlight the work of talented secondary school students from Noosa to Caboolture. Close to 20,000 people have visited exhibitions at the University's existing Gallery during the last three years.

Coastline BMW's Robert Kurz is looking forward to introducing his clients to the University and the exhibition program.

"The University has made an important contribution to the cultural development of the Sunshine Coast and this sponsorship is our way of saying we want to support that growth," he said.

Mr Kurz is also excited that Coastline BMW's support for the exhibition program will coincide with the construction and completion of a new purpose built Gallery at the University during 2004. Previous exhibitions have been hosted in a facility in the University's Library.

"All of the exhibitions at the University are open to the public so Coastline BMW's support will benefit not only the University but all those who wish to visit."

The development of the new Gallery is being assisted through a community fundraising initiative. The target is to reach $500,000. Donations received to date are just over $350,000.
