'The Eye of the Cyclone: Issues in Pacific Security'

Friday June 4 at 6pm

Image of Eye of the Cyclone book Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister Kevin Rudd will launch Dr Ivan Molloy's book on Pacific security at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Friday June 4 at 6pm.

Dr Molloy, a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Studies at the University of the Sunshine Coast said the book, titled 'Eye of the Cyclone: Issues in Pacific Security' is a compilation of papers on security issues presented at the Pacific Islands Political Studies Association (PIPSA) Conference held at Noosa in late 2002.

Dr Molloy, who convened the conference, is also the current President of PIPSA.

Edited by Dr Molloy with assistance from Politics students involved with PIPSA, the text is a major publication for Pacific Studies.

"Many experts on Pacific Islands politics and those of the greater region have contributed to this work," Dr Molloy said.

"They include many prominent academics and experts in the field of security."

"Copies have already been ordered by universities in the Pacific region, the United States and government agencies."

"The book is a coup for PIPSA and the University of the Sunshine Coast who jointly published it, and its importance has already been recognised by our security agencies and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade."

The book is a valuable resource not only for academics and governments but also anyone interested in security issues that affect our region.

The launch will take place at the Cooperative Bookshop, University of the Sunshine Coast on June 4 at 6pm.
