The University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery will launch its
exciting and diverse program for 2004 with two exhibitions opening
on Thursday 26 February at 6.00pm.
Sunshine Coast artist Corrie Wright's exhibition 'Traffic's
Heavy' explores the cultural icon of the car and the role it plays
in our daily lives. The exhibition features an installation of many
small canvases in which aspects of our environment and everyday
lives are reflected through the window of the car.
"My paintings examine fragments of urban environments, said Ms
Wright. "Seen individually they are just marks, impressions
really…but seen collectively the images are dependent on one
another."
Sharing the Gallery will be a selection of outstanding and
imaginative children's book illustrations in 'The Illustrator's
Art'. Collected by multi-award winning author and University of
the Sunshine Coast lecturer Gary Crew, the exhibition shows the
creative and diverse styles used by some of Australia's leading
artists and illustrators of children's picture books and
fiction.
Original illustrations from Mr Crew's well-known children's
books including 'Memorial', 'First Light' and 'The Watertower' will
be highlights of the show.
Both exhibitions will continue until Saturday March 20.
