University of the Sunshine Coast and Saltwater Studios joint agreement
May 24, 2004
The University of the Sunshine Coast and Saltwater Studios will
sign a Memorandum of Understanding tomorrow (Tuesday May 25) aimed
at developing education and training opportunities on the
Coast.
Professor Robert Elliot, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social
Sciences sees the agreement as a chance for the University to link
up with a potential major Sunshine Coast employer and to create
opportunities for students to gain hands-on industry
experience.
"The University of the Sunshine Coast has a strong reputation
for providing students with links to industry professionals. We
have internships with several Coast businesses and organisations
and Saltwater Studios will be yet another avenue for our students
to gain industry experience while studying," Professor Elliot
said.
"The experience we provide and the practical skills our students
develop working within their chosen industry are vital when it
comes to them applying for work when they leave university."
"Students studying public relations, creative writing, and film,
television and video production will benefit greatly from this
agreement."
"There will also be scope for industry experience in computer
graphics, Website development and multimedia," he said.
Students from the two other University Faculties will also be
able to take part in the agreement.
Marketing and Management students from the Faculty of Business
and the Faculty of Science Environmental Science students are also
identified in the Memorandum of Understanding.
"Opportunities would exist in not only the creative and
production areas of Saltwater Studios but also in the overall
management skills needed to run a large organisation," Professor
Elliot said.
