University of the Sunshine Coast information evening
6pm - Thursday December 9
Up to ten $500 bursaries on offer
If you work in business or run your own small business now is the time to upskill your career.
Whether you are looking for a total career change, a promotion, or you would like to formalise your work experience with tertiary qualifications, a business degree from the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) can help you achieve your career ambitions.
Returning to study is an important decision and you still have until December 13 to apply if you are a non-school leaver.
To help you make the right choice in study, the USC Faculty of Business is holding an information evening on December 9 at 6pm in the Function Room at the University.
The Faculty will also have information available on how you can apply for one of 10 bursaries of $500 to help with the up-front fees of returning to study such as text books.
Dean of Business, Professor Deborah Ralston, said the evening is a community initiative to inform people about the opportunities available for business people on the Sunshine Coast.
"People often express an interest in wanting to return to study and they can certainly see the benefits it would bring to their career," Professor Ralston said.
"This information evening is to point them in the right direction and encourage them to seriously consider a university degree.
"Academics will also be on hand during the evening to answer questions and discuss the range of degrees we have on offer.
"Many business people are looking to formalise their work experience, which may be quite extensive. A business degree can take you to the next level of your career and beyond," Professor Ralston said.
"For example, there are many people who may benefit from formalising and adding to their experience with a degree and professional qualifications in Human Resource Management or Financial Planning. We are offering both of these programs for the first time in 2005.
Small business owners can benefit from tertiary study too.
"Studying at university will build your business skills and being among like-minded people will generate ideas for further developing your own business," Professor Ralston said.
Former hospitality worker, Craig Ham, returned to study as a mature-aged student and in 2000 he graduated from USC with a Bachelor of Business (Marketing).
After initially working for a multinational motivational consumer research company on graduation, Mr Ham was headhunted by the Added Value Group Australia in Sydney, which is a global strategic marketing company, and he is now their Project Director looking after consumer insight.
With clients around the world, Mr Ham is frequently travelling to New Zealand, Asia, the UK and most recently to the US as he is establishing himself in the international world of consumer marketing.
"I enjoy finding out what drives people - understanding their lives, their passions, their perceptions and using this knowledge to develop effective branding and marketing campaigns," Mr Ham said.
"I'm enjoying the high performance culture - it's all about thinking and innovation," he said.
