The University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) has turned out almost 2,500 skilled graduates since its first graduation ceremony in 1999, and they keep on coming.

With more than 500 students set to complete their studies and begin their careers over the next few months, USC's Careers and Employment Officer, Ngaere Blair, is encouraging Sunshine Coast businesses and organisations to turn to the University when looking for new staff.

"With a broad range of degrees available and great support services, our students are enhancing their skills and knowledge for today's workplace," Ms Blair said.

The University has students graduating in 2004 with degrees including; Environmental Science, Design and Marketing, Communications, Community Work, Accounting, Public Health, Sports and Exercise Science and many more across the Arts, Business, Science and Social Science fields.

Ms Blair has been pleased with the number of employers already registering their job vacancies with her at the University.

"It has been very encouraging to get such a great response from local employers who want to offer one of our students a job," she said.

"Sometimes it may be for a short-term basis, but they are all much needed opportunities for students to gain entry into their chosen career."

Work experience and volunteer work is also highly valued by employers and students alike, with many local community organisations and businesses finding places for students as volunteers and offering ongoing roles for the benefit of practice and knowledge of the workplace.

Students value the opportunity to get some hands-on skill development and see how their education fits into the world of work.

"There have been many employers who have contacted me saying how pleased they are with the USC graduates they already have working for them, and are willing to offer more students work experience or paid work," Ms Blair said.

Businesses and organisations interested in employing a student or providing an opportunity for them to gain hands-on work experience are encouraged to contact Ngaere Blair on (07) 5430 1226, or e-mail nblair@usc.edu.au for more information.

All jobs received are advertised free of charge to USC students.
