Unravel the mysteries of DNA in a hands-on laboratory workshop at the University of the Sunshine Coast over the summer holidays.

The summer school is open to high school students who will be in Years 10, 11 and 12 in 2005, and will be run by University lecturers in a university environment to provide students with additional knowledge, skills and experiences to complement their high school learning.

They are also lots of fun according to USC External Relations Officer Kylie McKenzie and a great chance to meet like-minded students, experience university and enhance school studies.

"The Science workshop will be very hands-on and students will have a lot of fun learning how to apply the latest technology to real life science," Ms McKenzie said.

Interested teachers are also welcome to attend the session.

"All the participants in the DNA workshop will receive a copy of the text 'Unravelling Genes' which is a layperson's guide to genetic engineering.

"The DNA workshop will be held at the University on Thursday the 20th of January," she said.

The DNA workshop costs $60 per person which includes morning tea, lunch, the text and all equipment and materials.
