First preference applications remain strong
7 December, 2005
UPDATE:
USC has maintained its increase in both first and overall preferences with an increase of almost 27 per cent in first preferences for the week beginning 5 December.
Popular undergraduate programs include Education, Nursing, Journalism, Accounting, Sport and Exercise, and postgraduate Diplomas in Education.
New programs in Food Science and Nutrition, Coastal Studies and Sport and Industry are also proving popular.

While university application numbers decline nationally, the University of the Sunshine Coast is going against the trend with overall strong increases, particularly in first preferences.
With other Queensland universities down five per cent of overall applications, USC has maintained a 17.5 per cent increase in its overall applications - and a 23.5 per cent increase in the number of students choosing USC as their first preference.
USC's application figures are the highest of any public university in Queensland.
The marked 23.5 per cent increase has remained stable since application statistics were first collated in early October said Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill.
"It's a very pleasing result for us and confirms our reputation as a great place to study," Professor Hill said.
"The trend also reflects new program offerings, especially in areas like education.
"Strong student demand ensures we can continue to broaden our offerings and attract additional commonwealth government places. It is a very good result for the region and its future development," he said.
The overall drop in university applications is not only affecting Queensland.
Universities in Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia are also experiencing an average five per cent drop in overall applications.
