Touring from the Bundaberg Arts Centre the exhibition Boom Baby Boom opens 6pm Thursday April 7 at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery.

Eight regional Queensland artists have interpreted the past 50 years of Australian history; the music, politics, film, pop art, op art, Americanisation and the sexual revolution and combined them to create a thought-provoking exhibition.

The exhibition will be opened by Bundaberg Art Centre's Public Programs Officer, Roana O'Neill.

Presented in a variety of media including photography, installation, film and digital image, the exhibition explores the popular culture of the Baby Boom generation.

"Many of us remember the era with a combination of fondness and chagrin," Dawn Oelrich, Curator University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery said.

"The clothes, the hair - there was a lot of hair - the music, the moon landing and on the down side the Vietnam War and our loss of innocence.

"Boom Baby Boom showcases some of the more contentious issues as well as the successes of the Baby Boomer's through the eyes of contemporary artists," she said.

"'Boomers (people born from 1945 - 1964) make up approximately one quarter of Australia's population and the exhibition is particularly relevant because of the current debate about the strain on future health and welfare systems.

But there are a lot of fun elements to the exhibition too, so I imagine it will have broad appeal," she said.

Participating artists are Ann Grocott, Helene Grove, Susan Hutton, Chris Johnstone, Seth Keen, Dave Machen, Jennifer McDuff and Christine Turner.

They represent the exciting and significant artists of remote and regional Queensland.

The University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery, located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs, is open to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday and Saturday from 1pm to 4pm. Image of Art Gallery on Opening night
