Karen Smallcombe is the recipient of the University Medal for the Faculty of Science, Health and Education for 2005.

Ms Smallcombe completed her Bachelor of Science degree with an outstanding 23 high distinctions and one distinction.

Her Grade Point Average was 6.9 and her study included biotechnology, pharmacology, nutrition and microbiology.

Aside from her academic success, Ms Smallcombe was active in the community during her studies volunteering at a community centre in Buderim and a retirement home in Caloundra.

On campus, Ms Smallcombe was actively assisting other students with support and assistance and she also acted as an Ambassador for International students.

She is continuing her studies with the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2005 completing an Honours degree.

The University Medal is awarded to students who achieve a Grade Point Average of 6.5 or more and have demonstrated academic excellence throughout the entire Bachelor's degree program and has passed all courses at a uniformly high standard.
