Develop your study skills with USC

26 September, 2005

The University of the Sunshine Coast is offering a free two-part course to assist secondary school students and people considering returning to study in developing their academic writing and study skills.

Presented by the University's Academic Skills Adviser, the intensive course will be held over two nights - Wednesday October 5 and 12 from 6.30pm at the University campus, Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs.

Specific skills and strategies needed to meet the challenges of senior secondary and university study will be covered.

Current Year 11 and 12 students and people who are planning on returning to study next year are encouraged to attend.

Session one covers strategies for critical reading and thinking and provides an introduction to the processes of critically evaluating readings and analysing texts.

Session two shows students how to avoid plagiarism by summarising, quoting and paraphrasing information correctly for academic purposes.

The sessions are free but bookings are essential. Call 5459 4558 or email kpage@usc.edu.au to secure your place.

'Developing your academic writing and study skills' is part of the University's Keep PACE Program, a series of free information sessions and workshops for students, parents and the community.
