Applications now open for July start at USC
21 April, 2005
Applications for mid-year enrolment at the University of the Sunshine Coast open today.
Applications are open to begin study in semester 2 of this year, starting on July 18.
USC offers a choice of more than 30 degrees across its Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Business, Science Health and Education for mid-year enrolment.
Applications can be made via the QTAC (Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre) website at www.qtac.edu.au.
The mid-year intake usually attracts people interested in returning to study or who are already working as opposed to students coming directly from high school according to USC Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill.
"Mid-year offers non school leavers a chance to enrol and begin their degrees," Professor Hill said.
"These are usually people who are interested in upgrading or changing their current careers, or in some cases wanting to follow a more personal dream of studying something that has always interested them such as creative writing."
And work and life experiences can contribute significantly toward university application.
"We recognise that valuable skills and knowledge are gained in the workforce and through life experience and these can contribute toward a ranking for university entry - much like an OP score for school leavers.
"Mid-year entry is also a second chance of enrolment in 2005 for people who may have left high school at the end of last year and have taken a six month break before committing to university study.
"A university degree is a way for people to advance their careers and USC offers courses that suit industry and businesses on the Sunshine Coast such as accounting, international or environmental studies, tourism, and regional planning.
"Mid-year is also an opportunity for TAFE students to upgrade or change their career options as a number of TAFE courses run for 18 months and finish mid-year," he said.
