International OECD team visit USC
1 November, 2005
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
(OECD) is a leader in tertiary education practice and has selected
the '12 best practice' regions from around the world to review in
an effort to learn more about how successfully engaged universities
operate within their regions.
In the southern hemisphere only the Sunshine-Fraser Coastal
region was selected.
During their stay on the Coast a panel of one national and two
international experts will meet with regional government and
business leaders as well as University staff.
They will explore what mechanisms are in place to ensure
continued successful engagement between the University and the
region, and how both the University and the region can support
University researchers to undertake relevant research projects and
how they can play a role in advising the region on development
matters.
They will examine a number of highly successful regional
research projects and will explore what makes a project
successful.
The overall goal of their visit is to produce a report that
synthesises the results of the 12 regional studies into a new
international model of regional engagement.
This document will be a significant tool to assist universities
and regions in engaging their research and teaching teams to meet
regional demands.
University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Thomas, is delighted
to be part of the groundbreaking benchmark study.
"USC is proud to have been selected as a participant and we look
forward to assisting the OECD in this important venture," Professor
Thomas said.
"Since its foundation the University has been committed to
regional engagement and development and I am keen to secure any
advice the OECD might be able to give us on how to achieve this
task better".
