Sail Away at University Gallery
16 November, 2005
24 November - 17 December
Ever dreamed of just sailing away? An exhibition of sailing photographs and ephemera will help you do just that at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery opening Thursday 24 November at 6 pm.
To be opened by Mooloolaba Yacht Club's Commodore, Ken Down, the exhibition is all about sailing - both racing and cruising.
"Michael Kenyon from Kenyon Sportsphoto has been very generous and loaned us a whole group of photos he has taken over the years," Dawn Oelrich, Curator of the University Gallery, said.
"Many are of local scenes - sailing off Mooloolaba and along the Coast. He has included great images from the 2004 World Etchells Race plus some pictures from the America's Cup Race in Perth.
"We will also include a photographic journal of the seven-year round-the-world odyssey made by Denis and Rusty Fitzgerald aboard Trinity II.
"Members of the MYC have been very generous, so we will have some great stories and interesting things to look at.
"And last but not least, we will have a specially designed sailing dingy from the Sailability organisation. Sailability is a volunteer organisation that encourages 'Freedom on the water - regardless of ability'.
"This program caters for adults and children of varying degrees of ability to get out and learn how to sail," Ms Oelrich said.
The exhibition will run until Saturday 17 December.
The University Gallery is open from 10am to 4pm weekdays and 1 to 4pm on Saturdays.
Admission to the exhibition is free and the public is welcome.
The 2005 USC Gallery Exhibition Program is proudly supported by Coastline BMW.
