USC strengthens school links this week
17 May, 2005
University students and staff have been working with local schools to build education links on the Sunshine Coast.
As part of Education Week, USC students studying to become secondary school teachers worked with Year 9 students from Chancellor State College.
They gained valuable experience interacting with school students as they discussed life at the university with the Chancellor State College students.
On Thursday, 19 May the University will host two school events - the annual Maths Tournament and athletic testing for Beerwah High School students.
The Maths Tournament features more than 500 secondary school students, teachers and parents from across the Sunshine Coast, from Beerwah in the south to Noosa in the north. The students form 82 teams and compete to find the maths champions.
Twenty-six Year 8 students from Beerwah High School will visit the University for sport science testing.
Beerwah have been the Sunshine Coast Athletics Champions for ten years running and the USC Centre for Healthy Activities, Sport and Exercise (CHASE) is helping them continue to succeed.
