Students mean business
21 June, 2005
The Faculty of Business has received $10,000 in the second year of funding of a Commonwealth grant.
The grant is in addition to $15,000 received last year for the same project.
USC was one of only three universities in Queensland to receive the grant.
Thirteen grants were offered nationally.
The Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources grant, offered under the National Innovation Awareness Strategy, will be used to launch a Business Plan competition for students.
The Students Mean Business Club will support students who are undertaking or already operating their own businesses by linking them with local industry professionals who will mentor, counsel and guide them through the maze of successful business operation and provide vital networks for future employment and business opportunities on the coast.
The Club will also provide an outlet for entrepreneurial students who have a creative business idea, but don't know where to begin.
Students will compete in the Business Plan competition, judged by a panel of experts with the winners receiving a cash prize to kick-start their idea.
