system>VOLTage showcases student talent
3 June, 2005
An exhibition of work produced by students at the University of the Sunshine Coast will open at the University Gallery next Friday evening, 10 June.
Advanced level Computer-Based Art and Design (CBAD) students were asked to explore the relationship between humans and technology and system>VOLTage is the innovative result.
CBAD course coordinator, Debbie Livingston said the works are on a par with today's professional industry standards.
"Visitors to the University Gallery are bound to be impressed by the professional standards that students have met both technically and artistically in producing these large format digital images," Ms Livingston said.
"Some of the work presented in system>VOLTage is organic and some it more robotic but it is always exciting."
The University offers a Bachelor of Arts (Computer-based art and design) through its Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
The degree prepares students for a variety of careers including graphic design, advertising, publishing, web design or multimedia design and development.
The degree is one of USC's most popular giving students the skills they need to work either in-house or operate their own design business.
USC Gallery Curator, Dawn Oelrich, is confident that system>VOLTage will appeal to a wide audience.
"Student exhibitions are always popular and this innovative exhibition has educational relevance not only for university level students but also for high school students considering a career in design. They will see what is at the forefront of graphic design in Queensland," Ms Oelrich said.
"We are also including the work of University of the Sunshine Coast Creative Arts Doctoral Candidate Wen Tsong (Frank) Huang," Ms Oelrich said.
"Frank's contribution to the exhibition is called the Communicon Project: Taiwanese mobile iconography.
"In his thesis he explores 'dimensions of hybrid communication in the postmodern world - combining communication with icon to become Communicon.
"His work is very modern and system>VOLTage and Communicon will combine to make an outstanding exhibition," Ms Oelrich said.
The University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery, located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs, is open to the public from 10am to 4pm weekdays and Saturday from 1pm to 4pm.
The 2005 USC Gallery Exhibition Program is proudly supported by Coastline BMW.
