USC appoints Professor of Education
5 April, 2005
The University of the Sunshine Coast has appointed Professor Tania Aspland as Professor of Education.
An education expert, Professor Aspland, was Professor and Director of Programs at Edith Cowan University in Perth and previously held the position of Assistant to the Dean of Education (Bachelor of Education) at QUT.
Professor Aspland is recognised as a leader in the development of Teacher Education programs and from 2000 to 2003, she was involved in industry partnership educational research projects in the Mooloolaba Education District.
USC launched its popular education programs this year and the decision has proved popular with new students.
The combined programs offer Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Business.
Many mature age students in the region who have harboured the dream of becoming a secondary school teacher have enrolled in the courses.
USC is the only university on the Sunshine Coast to offer a full-time secondary education program to students and the combined degrees effectively double future career options for graduates.
Another highlight of the USC programs is that they offer workplace learning experiences in the first semester of the first year.
The University also plans to offer both a Master of Education and Doctor of Education in the near future.
Education is part of the Faculty of Science, Health and Education.
