Catalyst: USC and The Power of Ten
21 February, 2006
As the University of the Sunshine Coast celebrates its first decade, a special retrospective exhibition to examine the role USC has played as a catalyst in the community has been opened to the public.
Catalyst: University of the Sunshine Coast and The Power of Ten focuses on different aspects of the University: its exciting architecture, its talented people and its proactive relationship with the natural environment.
University Gallery Curator, Dawn Oelrich, is a relative newcomer to the Sunshine Coast and to the University and greatly appreciates the environment on campus.
"Everyday when I arrive at work I am struck by how beautiful the architecture is," Ms Oelrich said.
"There is something exciting about working in a place as energetic as this. And how often do you get to work in a place with resident kangaroos, except maybe if you work with Steve and Terri Irwin!" she said.
TheCatalyst exhibition includes aerial photographs of campus growth over the past ten years (kindly donated by Graeme and Helen Gilles of Blue Tongue Helicopters), architectural models, early plans, brain-storming drawings and images of some of the people who have been instrumental in the University's growth.
"There will also be environmental art works and some other bits and pieces - it has been fun putting it together and it is one of ten exhibitions planned for this year in keeping with The Power of Ten anniversary celebrations being held throughout the year at the University," Ms Oelrich said.
The exhibition is open until 25 March and admission is free.
The USC Gallery, located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs, is open to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday and Saturday from 1 to 4pm. The Gallery is closed Sundays and public holidays.
The 2006 USC Gallery Exhibition Program is proudly supported by Coastline BMW.
