Gary Crew, senior lecturer in creative writing at the University of the Sunshine Coast, is the most highly awarded author of youth fiction in Australia, his books are published on every continent in the world in 15 languages and he is about to receive the title of 'doctor'.

Mr Crew will be awarded his Doctorate of Creative Arts (DCA) at the 2006 graduation ceremony on Thursday April 20 and officially become Dr Crew.

His DCA is also one of the first to be awarded by the University.

His PhD thesis led to the novel Sam Silverthorne: Quest and he already has a publishing contract to write two more - turning Sam Silverthorne's 'red-blooded' adventure books into a trilogy.

The creative writing course at USC, which was developed by Dr Crew, is a true success story with many graduates becoming published authors through his guidance and expertise.

Dr Crew will also be recognised during the graduation ceremony for his outstanding research in writing Sam Silverthorne: Quest, receiving the Vice-Chancellor's Medal for Outstanding University Researcher.
