19 April, 2006

Crowds will begin gathering outside the Innovation Centre Auditorium from 4.30pm and at 5.30 the formal ceremony begins with robed academics processing through the seated crowd of more than 2000 proud family and friends of the University's latest group of successful graduates.

Of the 742 people eligible to graduate this year, more than 430 will walk across the stage and receive their testamurs from University Chancellor, Ian Kennedy AO, during the eighth annual graduation ceremony taking the University's alumni numbers to more than 4000.

University staff will also be recognised for their outstanding contribution to the development of the University with awards in teaching, research and, for the first time this year, administration services also being presented.

Always an exciting night for staff, graduands and their families, this year's event holds special significance for the University's inaugural and current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Thomas as USC celebrates ten years.

"I, along with all University staff, congratulate the Class of 2006 on their achievements and wish them well in their future careers. This year's event takes on very special meaning as we celebrate the milestone of our first decade," Professor Thomas said.

"Graduation is always an exciting time, and is the University's most important annual event.

"As USC continues to grow faster than any other university in this country, our graduates are our greatest ambassadors to ensure further growth and success across the next decade," Professor Thomas said.
