Headstart information evening
9 March, 2006
Wednesday 15 March at 6.30pm
The University's Headstart Program offers high school students
the opportunity to begin university study while still at
school.
It allows Year 11 and 12 students to complete accredited
university courses as part of their USC degree, shortening the time
it takes for them to complete their studies and giving them a
'headstart' on their peers.
Headstart coordinator, Kylie McKenzie, said students get a taste
of university-level study and the program is proving to be
excellent preparation for the rigours of university life.
"Many of our Headstart students achieve Distinctions and High
Distinctions in their university studies and their school work also
significantly improves," Ms McKenzie said.
"Entry into the program is competitive, so we are holding an
information evening for parents and students on how to apply and
what to expect.
"At present we have 73 students studying at USC as part of the
Headstart Program and they are coming from schools from Gympie to
Caboolture.
The information session is for parents and students
in Years 10, 11 or 12 with Headstart places available in
Semester 2, 2006 and Semester 1, 2007.
Current Headstart students will also be available to discuss
their experience at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
