Aboriginal ceremony to cleanse USC's new building

15 December 2006

A traditional Aboriginal smoking ceremony will be held at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s new Chancellory building on Monday 18 December at 10am.

Local indigenous people Anthony Beezley and Lyndon Davis will conduct the ceremony to cleanse the building which next year will house the offices of USC Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Thomas, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill and many other USC staff.

Mr Beezley said the smoking ceremony was significant for several reasons including linking the past to the present and allowing resistant forces to be on notice to stand down to bring cultural harmony, freedom and atmosphere.
