Recognition of prior learning at USC
30 January, 2006
The University is one part of a multi-layered educational system
operating within the region, with many training and education
partnerships on the Sunshine Coast.
There are many career and study paths available to the community
covering a wide range of options.
The University has recently been working with the Cooloola
Sunshine Institute of TAFE (CSIT) to jointly address the training
and education needs of the region and how cooperation between the
various education providers can enhance outcomes for students, the
community and the region.
A growing number of combined diploma/degree programs are
becoming available.
By articulating University and CSIT programs, students can
integrate their TAFE studies with a degree from USC.
TAFE and higher education studies are run concurrently allowing
students to achieve qualifications from both institutions in less
time than it would take to achieve the qualifications
separately.
For graduates seeking work, the two qualifications complement
each other well as seen with the combined Diploma of Fitness (CSIT)
and Bachelor of Science in Exercise Therapy (USC), graduates have
the appropriate hands-on experience offered by CSIT as well as the
more theoretical studies provided through USC.
Many students come to USC with TAFE qualifications and many are
looking to build on their current qualifications and the region's
capacity to retain its workforce depends, in part, on opportunities
being available for further education.
In an age of life-long learning, up-skilling and career changes,
the availability of layered and complementary education options is
vital.
