Time Place Space - latest exhibition

Two Sunshine Coast artists will be showcased at an exhibition opening at the University Gallery on Thursday 4 May at 6pm.

Observing the characteristics of time, place and space, painters Mandy McGuire and Andrew Dixon create an exhibition of spatial phenomena.

"This is a complex selection of both non-representational (abstract) and figurative paintings that explore some modern themes and the illusionary characteristics of time, space and place," Dawn Oelrich, Gallery Curator, said.

"McGuire's figurative paintings construct a sense of time and timelessness that act as a narrative. Her paintings are dreamlike or suggestive of a distant memory - sometimes disturbing and even violent.

Image of Artwork: Andrew Dixon, Enigma in Blue2, oil on canvas, 350mm x 350mm, 2005. "Andrew Dixon's layered, process-driven artworks start with the grid as a formal element and then add successive layers to further explore the phenomenon of time. Time is a process of documentation," she said.

Painter, printmaker and sculptor, Mandy McGuire is well-known on the Sunshine Coast from her work in solo and selected group exhibitions and as an arts administrator with the Cooroy Butter Factory.

Andrew Dixon's artwork is rapidly developing a broader national audience since his recent successful shows in Brisbane and Melbourne.

He has been exhibiting in solo and group exhibitions on the Coast since the 1990's and he teaches art at the Cooloola Sunshine Institute of TAFE.

The exhibition will continue until Saturday 3 June.

The University Gallery, located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs, is open to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday and Saturday from 1 to 4pm. The Gallery is closed Sundays and public holidays.

The 2006 USC Gallery Exhibition Program is proudly supported by Coastline BMW.
