Maroochy Clever Network will boost USC research
The University of the Sunshine Coast is looking forward to developing a greater research focus following today’s launch of the Maroochy Clever Networks Project.
USC has contributed $600,000 to the $6.3 million optical fibre and wireless network project which was announced by Communications, Information Technology and the Arts Minister Senator Helen Coonan at the University’s Innovation Centre.
The Federal Government has contributed $2.9 million to the project, with other major funding coming from Maroochy Shire Council, Allegro Networks and other private businesses.
USC Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill said the network would enable the University to gain greater leverage from the Australian University Super Computing Network and adopt a greater research focus.
Professor Hill said USC also would be able to provide more effective internet education modules and online learning, offer a broader range of educational programs, and attract more students nationally and internationally.
The accelerated deployment of the high-speed, new generation broadband infrastructure on the Sunshine Coast could directly benefit as many as 53,000 homes and 33,000 businesses.
