Gallery to host exhibition of school students’ work
Dynamic art works by high school students from the Sunshine Coast and surrounding regions will this month feature in an exhibition at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery.
The Education Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Art (Regional Exhibition 2007) will open for public viewing at 6pm on Friday 17 August. The University Gallery hosts the exhibition annually to recognise creative excellence.
Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said 30 works from senior students from more than 20 high schools had been selected, with those featured having a chance to gain further acclaim in a state-wide exhibition in 2008.
“Being included in the regional exhibition is already a mark of excellence, but we always find that high school student artists especially are fearless,” she said.
“They are able to work across several media employing methods from traditional painting to digital art, photography and installation.
“This is an exciting opportunity for high school students to see their work presented in a public art gallery and to get an idea of the University environment.”
The regional exhibition will continue until Saturday 1 September and admission is free.
Ms Oelrich said usually two to five works from each of the regional exhibitions across Queensland gain selection for a state-wide exhibition. However, seven works from the Sunshine Coast were selected last year and these are currently on show at the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane.
The USC Gallery is open from 10am to 4pm Mondays to Saturdays. It also will be open for Courses for Careers Day on Sunday 19 August and for Festuri on Sunday 26 August.
The 2007 USC Gallery Exhibition Program is proudly supported by Sajen legal.
