USC academic listed in Who’s Who guide
University of the Sunshine Coast popular culture expert Dr Karen Brooks has been featured in the inaugural edition of Who's Who of Australian Women, which will be released later this month.
The book, published by Crown Content, lists Dr Brooks alongside some of Australia’s most famous women.
Who's Who of Australian Women features 4500 women’s contributions to Australia through many diverse fields including aviation, business, fashion, motherhood, advocacy, journalism, nursing, architecture, community service, the arts, agriculture and philanthropy.
Dr Brooks is a Senior Lecturer in Cultural Studies at USC. She has established a national and international reputation for her work on popular culture, is a columnist for the Courier Mail and a regular social commentator on television.
She said she was thrilled by the Who’s Who honour.
“I feel humbled to be listed alongside women who have contributed to the making of our country,” she said.
Dr Brooks has this month secured a contract with University of Queensland Press to publish a fantasy trilogy of books and has been a guest “brains trust” member for ABC TV quiz show “The Einstein Factor” which screens on Sunday nights.
She recently claimed another feather in her cap when an edition of the family magazine, Sydney’s Child, won a prestigious gold award at the Parenting Publications of America Editorial and Design Awards in Los Angeles.
The magazine contained an article by Dr Brooks which explored the repercussions of labelling children as “gifted and talented”. The article itself gained a notable mention at the awards.
