Minister gives USC award for nursing programs
Federal Education, Science and Training Minister Julie Bishop has presented the University of the Sunshine Coast with an award in recognition of its innovative approach to the development of nursing education programs.
Ms Bishop present the award for “Innovation in Education in Support of General Practice” on behalf of the Australian General Practice Network (APGN) during the official opening of USC's $10 million Indoor Sports Stadium.
The Sunshine Coast Division of APGN began working with the University in 2002 on developing a national model of professional education for nurses.
This model allowed the Divisions of General Practice around the country to partner with USC to deliver a postgraduate Certificate of Nursing endorsed in general practice.
An APGN spokesman said the partnership with USC has resulted in the most affordable, flexible and accessible postgraduate qualification for nurses in the country.
He said the Sunshine Coast Division of General Practice was honoured last year by the Australian General Practice Network for its role in brokering this national qualification and it has provided this award to USC to extend that recognition to the University.
