USC congratulates 2161 successful applicants

USC Deputy Vice-Chancellor Greg Hill

11 January 2007

Almost 2200 people have been offered places in degree programs at the University of the Sunshine Coast starting Semester 1, 2007, and the figure is set to climb with a second round of offers being made on February 1.

The University had a significant increase in the number of applications received for 2007, with 17 percent more people choosing USC as their first preference compared to 2006 statistics.

USC’s popularity, which defies a 1.5 percent statewide decrease in first preferences at universities, has been buoyed by the introduction of new degree programs, particularly Nursing Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, Social Work, Justice and Legal Studies, Property and Asset Management and Early Childhood Education.

The 2161 offers for places at USC include 1451 offers to Sunshine Coast applicants and 227 to Brisbane residents. The remaining offers are to applicants from regional Queensland and from interstate.

The first round of offers was released on-line through QTAC (Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre – www.qtac.edu.au) at 1am today (Thursday, January 11) and enrolment packs from USC will begin arriving in applicants’ mailboxes over the next few days.

Responding promptly to the offer pack will guarantee a place at USC in Semester 1 which begins February 19, and Orientation Week will be held the week prior (12-15 February).

Anyone who has applied to USC but does not receive an offer pack within the next few days should contact Lisa Latty at the University on 5430 2876 for advice.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill congratulated those who have been offered a place at USC.

“University study can significantly change people’s lives. The skills and knowledge students acquire while they are here will be with them for the rest of their lives,’’ he said.

“A tertiary education opens up a range of unique opportunities and we will assist students to make the most of their time here.”

“The recognition USC gained in 2006 for the excellence of its teaching and support for students affirms that this is a great place to study and build a career.

“Last year, 52 percent of our undergraduate students were the first in their family to enrol at a university, so this is a very important time for Coast families who are breaking new ground.

“I congratulate those applicants who have made it this far and I look forward to welcoming them to the University at the start of O-Week in February.

“Remember, this is just the first round of offers, so it is not too late to apply, particularly for those who were not aware of the broader range of degree programs which are available.”

Anyone who still wants to begin studying at USC this February can contact Lisa Latty on 5430 2876. Applications details also are available through QTAC (Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre) at www.qtac.edu.au

The full range of degrees on offer at the University is available at www.usc.edu.au or call Student Administration on 5430 2890 for degree and application information.
