$20,000 in awards to give students a boost
Growing community involvement in the University of the Sunshine Coast will be celebrated today when scholarships, bursaries and prizes worth $20,000 are presented to 15 USC students.
USC Foundation Executive Officer Andrew Pentland said the community-funded awards would be presented at the University Brasserie from 10.15-11.30am, with donors meeting the student recipients.
Mr Pentland said USC now had about 85 community-funded scholarships, bursaries and prizes, worth about $190,000. Many of these awards were presented earlier this year.
Mr Pentland thanked the donors for their valuable contributions.
“Their gifts are really making a difference,” he said. “It does have a big impact, not only through the financial component, but also by encouraging the students to continue their studies.”
Mr Pentland said the University’s Building Excellence Campaign aimed to raise $1million for student bursaries and scholarships.
