Conference to discuss life after amalgamation
What the future holds for the Sunshine Coast after the planned local council amalgamation will be top of the agenda for the third annual State of the Region Conference at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
The one-day conference at the University on Tuesday 30 October will bring together major decision-makers, researchers and strategists from public and private sectors to discuss major issues facing the Sunshine Coast.
Conference organiser and USC business lecturer David Gration said the event would feature a major session on the local government amalgamation and what outcomes the Coast could expect from the changes.
Mr Gration said the conference also would include presentations of original research on other issues affecting the Coast, such as housing affordability, seniors, training and development needs and environmental sustainability.
The conference will have the theme “Revelations: the Sunshine Coast” and will be co-hosted by USC and the Committee for Economic Development of Australia with support by companies Cadet, Investa, Munro Thompson and Parsons Brinckerhoff.
Mr Gration said last year’s conference was booked out in advance and a larger venue would be used to accommodate an expected 250 delegates this year.
“The conference program is designed to maximise interaction and networking with leading business entrepreneurs in the tourism, retail, building and manufacturing sectors and other key regional decision makers,” he said.
