Companies show support for business awards

16 May 2007

The University of the Sunshine Coast’s 2007 Faculty of Business Awards and Prizes Ceremony will be held tomorrow evening (Thursday 17 May, 6-8pm).

Almost 50 awards from 35 local, state and national businesses and organisations will be presented to students at the event in the Function Hall adjacent the USC Brasserie.

Faculty of Business marketing officer Melissa Sheridan said the prizes ranged in value from $250 to $1500 and totalled $16,150.

“They are awarded to outstanding students in particular subjects, such as Company Accounting, or to an overall outstanding student in a particular major,” she said.

“Also, there are bursaries and scholarships worth up to $25,500 for students.”

Ms Sheridan said the ceremony was a proud occasion for award sponsors and recipients, Faculty of Business staff and the University as a whole.

“A business degree from USC equals a job, according to a survey conducted last year of Australia university business degrees,” she said.

“USC’s Faculty of Business came out in top place in a survey of business graduate employment rates, with USC’s business degrees consistently rating higher than the national average when it comes to graduates finding jobs.”
