Creative writing teacher publishes first children's novel

8 February 2007

The first children’s book by Buderim-based author and University of the Sunshine Coast creative writing teacher Lindsay Cripps hit the bookstands today.

The Mystery of the Ruby Glasses is an adventure mystery for children aged 8 to 12, featuring Shey who is able to enter the scenes of paintings by looking through a pair of old opera glasses.

Lindsay teaches creative writing at USC and says he is passionate about words and writing for young people.

He wrote The Mystery of the Ruby Glasses while doing his Honours in Computer Based Art and Design and Creative Writing at USC.

USC Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing Gary Crew recognised Lindsay talent and recommended the work to his publisher, Hachette Children's Books.

The book has a distinct Sunshine Coast feel to it and clearly features Lindsay's passions for travel, art and writing.

Lindsay said he was planning a public launch of The Mystery of the Ruby Glasses at the University Co-op Bookshop in early March.
