Students' digital media exhibition opens soon

Virtual Metaverse by Alyce Biggs

7 June 2007

A digital media exhibition, TECH TOC, featuring work by advanced level Computer-Based Art and Design students at the University of the Sunshine Coast, will open at the University Gallery on Thursday 14 June at 6pm.

Student designer Turkka Heiska will make the opening speech for the exhibition which explores technology and society in exciting and innovative ways.

Computer-Based Art and Design lecturer Debbie Livingston said this exciting exhibition was one of the best she has worked with.

“Student artwork is on a par with today’s professional industry standards,” Ms Livingston said.

“Visitors to the Gallery are bound to be impressed by the professional standards of the works which students have met both technically and artistically in producing these large format digital images.”

The University of the Sunshine Coast offers a Bachelor of Arts (Computer-Based Art and Design) which prepares students for a variety of careers including graphic design, advertising, publishing, web design or multimedia design and development.

The degree is one of USC’s most popular and gives students the skills they need to work either in-house or operate their own design business.

USC Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said she was confident that TECH TOC would appeal to a wide audience.

“This exhibition features our top student designers,” she said.

“Student exhibitions are always popular and this innovative exhibition has educational relevance not only for university students but also for high school students considering a career in design. They will see what is at the forefront of graphic design in Queensland.”

The exhibition will be at the gallery until Friday 29 June.

The University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery, located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs, is open to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday.

The Gallery is closed Sundays and public holidays. The 2007 USC Gallery Exhibition Program is proudly supported by Sajen Legal.
