Emotions in the spotlight at conference
Emotions will be high on the agenda at an international conference being hosted by the University of Queensland in association with the University of the Sunshine Coast at the Hyatt Regency Coolum this week.
The International Society for Research on Emotions conference from Wednesday 11 July to Sunday 15 July is set to attract 130 delegates from many disciplines across the world and bring great international exposure for the region.
ISRE President Professor Agneta Fischer of the University of Amsterdam will host the opening session of the conference on Wednesday 11 July (at 5pm). This will be followed by a “welcome to country” by the Gubbi Gubbi Dance Troupe on behalf of the local indigenous community.
USC Professor of Management Andrew Hede said the University was proud to be a major sponsor of the conference which will cover a broad range of disciplines and themes relevant to all aspects of emotion.
“Interest in the emotions continues to grow in disciplines including philosophy, anthropology, linguistics, and cognitive neuroscience, as well as several fields of psychology,” he said.
“ISRE conferences attract not only established leaders in emotion research, but many promising early-career researchers.
“The conference has been held annually for more than 20 years but this is the first time this prestigious international conference has been held in Australia.”
Professor Hede and fellow USC business academic Dr John Whiteoak will present two co-authored papers at the conference, including one on the role of emotion in organisational conflict.
