USC provides financial advice for new students
The University of the Sunshine Coast will provide its new students with some timely financial advice at a special information session from 6.30-8pm on Wednesday 24 January.
USC Scholarships Officer Kathryn Hughes said the Financial Support for Students session would provide realistic and important advice on how to deal with the expenses involved in studying.
“Now that students have made the commitment to accept an offer of a place to study at USC, they are ready to focus more on how much it’s actually going to cost and how they are going to financially survive while they are here,’’ Ms Hughes said.
“We advise students to plan for how they are going to afford to be a full-time student.”
Ms Hughes said the event would cover study costs, budgeting advice, cost-saving tips, financial support and government assistance, as well as bursaries and scholarships.
“Our Student Fees Officer will provide information about how to calculate what fees have to be paid and HECS-HELP assistance.”
“We’ll talk about services provided by our Health and Well-Being Officer, such as financial counselling, budgeting advice and Student Loans. We’ll also look at Centrelink benefits that are available to support students, like Youth Allowance, Austudy and Low Income Health Care Cards’’ she said.
“Students will also be able to find out where to look for second-hand textbooks and gain discounts for things like public transport.”
“Some students will be lucky enough to get scholarships and bursaries and we’ll tell them how they can apply for these.”
The event will be held at USC Lecture Theatre 2. For more details and bookings contact Marion Allan at the University on 5459 4795.
