USC offers short course in health promotion

29 May 2007

A four-day interactive short course in health promotion needs assessment and planning will be held at the University of the Sunshine Coast from 4-7 June.

This course has been designed to help people working in the sectors of health, education, environment, welfare, transport, sport, recreation, community, planning and development.

Course coordinator Jane Gregg of USC’s Faculty of Science, Health and Education said participants could include those working in government, private sector or community-based health promotion programs.

“This short course explores the process of assessing the health promotion needs of a community and then the process used to plan appropriate goals and objectives to address identified priorities,” she said.

“The course is designed for people interested in developing a greater understanding of the needs assessment and planning components of contemporary public health and health promotion programs or projects.”

Ms Gregg said course participants would develop skills in using various models for health promotion needs assessment and planning.

Limited places are available. For more information, contact USC’s Centre for Healthy Activities, Sport and Exercise (CHASE) administrator Helen Szabo on 5459 4656.

A further short course in health promotion implementation and evaluation is planned for December.
