Adrianna builds public relations career

USC Public Relations student Adrianna Pearce

24 January 2007

Maroochydore advertising and marketing consultant Adrianna Pearce, 24, was about to head off to Brisbane a year ago in search of public relations work.

Instead, she decided that a degree in Communication, majoring in Public Relations, from the University of the Sunshine Coast could “open up other avenues” for her career.

Adrianna lodged an application to study at USC in late January last year and hasn’t looked back since. She has powered ahead in her studies, gaining three distinctions and a high distinction in second semester 2006.

“I know exactly what I want to take from this,’’ she said. “So I’m motivated to get in and study because I know it’s going to be of benefit to me.

“I am really impressed with the course content and the teaching staff at USC. Communication is that sort of course where you need practical as well as theoretical.”

Adrianna, who has a Diploma in Public Relations, currently works in women’s fashion retailing and has established her own marketing and advertising business.

She was one of about 100 students who successfully made late applications to study at the University of the Sunshine Coast last year.

People who are keen to launch a new career this year can still apply to study at USC for Semester 1, 2007.

The University has more than 100 degree programs on offer, with new programs starting in Early Childhood Education, Property and Asset Management, Nutrition and Dietetics, Social Work, Justice and Legal Studies and Nursing Science.

Whether you want to study full-time or part-time, University staff can help you determine which degree program is right for you and assist in submitting your application.

They can also advise on how many hours a week you’ll need to set aside for study and how to combine study with other commitments.

To begin studying this February, contact the University’s applications hotline on 5456 5000. Applications details also are available through QTAC (Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre) at www.qtac.edu.au

The full range of degrees on offer at the University is available at www.usc.edu.au or call Student Administration on 5430 2890 for degree and application information.
