Writing contest has a $2000 first prize
A $2000 cash prize and the chance to launch a literary career are up for grabs in the annual Voices on the Coast 2007 Writing Competition.
The competition, sponsored by Maroochy Shire Council, is open to previously unpublished authors who are writing for children aged 8-13.
It is part of the regional youth literature festival, Voices on the Coast, which will be presented by Immanuel Lutheran College and the University of the Sunshine Coast from Sunday 27 May to Saturday 2 June.
Festival Coordinator Kelly Dunham said the writing competition was attracting plenty of attention because it offered authors the chance to have their entries read and judged by a University of Queensland Press representative.
Mrs Dunham said 90 entries were received in last year’s competition. The winning entry, Kumiko and the Dragon, by Briony Stewart, 22, of Perth is about to be released by University of Queensland Press.
This year’s competition has a $2000 first prize and a $500 second prize. Entries will close on Friday 30 March and the winner will be announced at the Voices on the Coast festival launch in May.
