USC property program gains accreditation
The newly-developed Bachelor of Business (Property and Asset Management) at the University of the Sunshine Coast has gained full professional accreditation from Australia’s peak property professional body, the Australian Property Institute.
USC’s Professor of Property and Development Mike Hefferan said this was great news for students and staff at the University and a big step forward in USC’s goal of establishing Australia’s leading centre of excellence in property education and research.
“The new degree is at the forefront of undergraduate property education in Australia,” Professor Hefferan said.
“It will appeal to anyone seeking a professional career in valuation, development, property management, asset and facilities management, or property sales and leasing.
“The program is offered in full or part-time modes, with lectures predominantly scheduled for the late afternoon or evening to accommodate for students who have full-time work.”
Professor Hefferan said USC had assembled a great team of academic and professional staff members to present this first-class undergraduate program.
The team includes Senior Lecturer in Property Stuart Ross and Adjunct Professor of Property Terry Boyd (both former members of QUT’s Property Economics team), Business Law Lecturer Lucy Cradduck, and economist and local development company director Pam Wardner.
“The wealth of professional experience offered by the staff ensures that students gain real-life property experiences throughout their degree with field trips and case studies being integral elements of the learning experience,” Professor Hefferan said.
Senior Lecturer in Property Stuart Ross said the accreditation of the Bachelor of Business (Property and Asset Management) program would lead to an expansion of property-related courses and programs at USC.
“Over the next few years, we will expand our short course and professional development programs for the benefit of the Coast's property professionals,” he said.
“The most significant advance, however, will be in the area of post graduate education, with an integrated series of postgraduate certificate, diploma and masters programs offered in teaching blocks designed to suit the needs of busy professionals.”
