Property industry course to highlight options

Professor of Property and Development Mike Hefferan

25 February 2009

The impact of the global economic crisis on the local property market will be brought into sharp focus at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s next professional development course for the property sector.

The “Understanding Contemporary Property” course on 2-3 July is aimed at those keen to broaden and update their knowledge about current trends and approaches to property development.

It will feature presentations by leading property professionals and will be facilitated by Professor Mike Hefferan, who is one of only five Professors of Property and Development in Australia.

Participants will gain an insight into the critical components of the property sector, from legal and financial matters through to property selection and negotiation, seeking development approvals, construction and project management.

Professor Hefferan said the interactive two-day course had been designed for private individuals, firms, shareholders, board members, investors and public sector employees who need to understand more about property assets and projects.

“There is a lot of interest in how changes in the financial sector are going to impact on local property markets, so we’ll be discussing that at length,” he said.

“Current world economic events make it an opportune time for us all to reconsider what we see as the role of property, both as fundamental to our well-being and lifestyle, but also as an investment and a way to aggregate and store wealth.

“The financial events since August have been dramatic, to say the least. But it’s not all gloom and doom. There are still a lot of opportunities out there, especially if you’re prepared to work counter-cyclically and take a longer term view.”

Numbers for the course are limited and early bookings are recommended. For more details, contact Yolande Smith on (07) 3892 6604 or at <yolande@loucherie.com>.
